Disposable vapes ban announced

30 January 2024/in News/by Iain Stevens

On the 29th January, Government announced that disposable vapes will be banned in England, Scotland and Wales as part of plans to create a ‘smokefree generation’.

‘DEFRAs ban will have a positive impact on our environment. 5 million disposable vapes are thrown away each week, up from 1.3 million last year. Over a year this is equivalent to the lithium batteries of 5,000 electric vehicles.

Enforcement of the disposables ban will be carried out through Trading Standards Officers.’

The proposals will also ‘restrict flavours specifically marketed at children, ensuring manufactures produce plainer, less visually appealing packaging’ for reuseable vapes.

It excludes the large-scale incidents dealt with by the Environment Agency and the majority of private-land incidents.’

Working with farmers to protect our future land

2 January 2024/in News/by Iain Stevens

‘Agriculture is the biggest sector we regulate in terms of individual businesses, with around 100,000 premises covering 70% of the land in England’.

This Environment Agency (EA) blog highlights ‘how the EA works together with farmers to bring the changes and improvements which will protect our future land and resources and secure better compliance with environmental regulations.’
